Single cases, case series and retrospective evaluations of patients are usually the only pos-sibility for practicing physicians and therapists to conduct their own independent clinical re-search and to communicate important experiences to the medical community. However, the presentation of single cases and case series published so far were often incomplete and therefore did non reach a realistic chance on adequate recognition and acceptance of its therapeutic content, even if the presented therapeutic concept seems beneficial.
Abstract
Single cases, case series and retrospective evaluations of patients are usually the only possibility for practicing physicians and therapists to conduct their own independent clinical research and to communicate important experiences to the medical community. However, the presentation of single cases and case series published so far were often incomplete and therefore did non reach a realistic chance on adequate recognition and acceptance of its therapeutic content, even if the presented therapeutic concept seems beneficial. To give support for improvement of the publication quality in future, criteria and a checklist are presented, describing the information that should be included in the publication of oncological, therapeutic single cases and case series.
